How long after botox can you lie down?

Hey everyone! I just got my first Botox treatment today and I’m so excited, but I’ve read different things about when I can lie down afterward. I usually like to relax on my sofa or bed shortly after appointments, but I don’t want to risk messing anything up. Has anyone experienced this? How long did you wait before lying down comfortably? Would appreciate any tips or personal experiences. Thanks!

Hi @nycbabe! Congrats on your first treatment! I’m also pretty new to this and have been doing a lot of my own research lately. From what I’ve gathered, the most common advice is to wait at least four hours before lying down flat. The concern I usually see mentioned is that lying down too soon might cause the Botox to migrate to other muscles before it fully settles.

I totally get the urge to relax, though! When I’m worried about it, I just try to stay upright or propped up with pillows while watching TV. Since there’s so much conflicting info online, I’ve found it’s always best to follow the specific aftercare instructions from a board-certified provider. They really are the best resource for making sure your results turn out exactly how you want!

waiting four hours sounds about right for me too

I waited about five hours before lying down after my first treatment, felt safer that way. Just kept myself busy with some light chores and TV. Totally worth it for peace of mind!

the struggle to stay upright for hours is honestly the worst part

I just prop myself up in a recliner with a neck pillow so I don’t accidentally nod off. It keeps my head elevated enough that I don’t worry about gravity shifting anything around.

I remember hearing that staying upright for at least four to six hours is recommended, but personally I find it makes a big difference to schedule my Botox appointments earlier in the day so I have plenty of time to just relax and keep my head elevated without rushing. On my last treatment, I set an alarm for six hours and then gently did some light face massage afterward, which seemed to help spread the Botox evenly and reduce any minor swelling. It’s such a simple thing, but planning your day around the sleep and rest time really helps me feel more confident about the results.

Oh I swear I was nested in my giant pillow fort for like 6 hours after my Botox! No way I’m risking anything sneaking around! Seriously, whatever makes you feel safest, right?

I totally hear you on wanting to relax right after! I found that keeping my head elevated really helped. After my first treatment, I used a stack of pillows while watching a movie, and it made the time pass quicker without worrying too much about the Botox settling. Plus, a good distraction is key!

Laying down sounds so tempting, right? But worth the wait! :joy:

i never lay down for at least six hours after, but that’s just me. i feel like the longer i wait, the better the results. just make sure to take it easy and not stress about it too much.

I remember my first Botox treatment, and I was such a nervous wreck about lying down too soon. I ended up waiting a solid six hours before I took that first nap, just to be on the safe side. I thought it would be hard, but I kept myself entertained with a couple of good movies and some light snacks. The results were so worth it, just make sure you find a way to keep busy for those hours!
