Hooded eyes at 60, surgery or is there anything else?

I’ve been noticing my upper eyelids drooping quite a bit lately, making my eyes look smaller and tired even after a good night’s sleep. I’m 66 and have started thinking about whether eyelid surgery would be worth it to brighten up my eyes, or if there are less invasive options I should try first. I’m a bit concerned about the recovery time and how long I might be off driving or normal activities after surgery. Has anyone here had blepharoplasty later in life and can share what the healing process was like? How soon were you back to your regular routine?

I totally get the frustration with hooded eyes, especially at our age. I’ve had some luck with Botox around that area to help lift a bit, but it’s definitely a temporary fix. Just keep in mind to go to someone who understands the balance, overfilling can make things look worse.

I totally get how frustrating hooded eyes can be, especially when it starts making you look more tired than you feel! I’ve seen some friends try the non-invasive options first like skin tightening creams or even targeted laser treatments, but honestly, with hooded lids, those only do so much. For a more noticeable change, a blepharoplasty has made such a difference, brightens up the whole face and looks very natural if done well!

Definitely feeling the heaviness over my lids after all this weight loss too.

There are definitely several options to consider when it comes to hooded eyes, especially at our age. I haven’t had surgery for mine, but I have explored non-surgical treatments. For example, some friends of mine have had success with Botox. When done right, it can lift the brow and reduce the hooded effect without the need for a surgical procedure. The results can last around three to six months, and I believe costs usually range from $300 to $600 per treatment, depending on how many units you need.

If you’re leaning towards surgery, it’s essential to find a surgeon who specializes in eyelid procedures. Ask to see before-and-after photos of past patients and be sure to discuss everything you want to achieve. I’ve heard people mention that recovery can take about a week to start seeing results, but full healing might take up to a few months. Make sure to ask how they manage post-operative care and what to expect during recovery.

In the meantime, I recommend experimenting with makeup techniques that can make a difference in how our eyes appear. Lighter eye shadows on the lid and slightly darker tones in the crease can create an illusion of lift. It’s a slow process, but working with what we have can still make us feel more confident as we consider our options.

Hooded eyes seem to follow me like a shadow. I tried some eyelid crèmes that promised lifting but all I got was sticky eyelids and a small dent in my wallet. Thinking about surgery but at my age I figure if I go under, I want it perfect or not at all.
