How long recovery nose job?

Hi everyone! I’m finally starting my research into rhinoplasty after thinking about it for years. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the recovery part though. I work a public-facing job and have a big family wedding in four months. How long did it take you to feel “normal” enough for photos or to head back to the office? I really want to make sure the swelling won’t be super obvious by then. Would love to hear your personal experiences with those first few weeks!

Hi @just_me! I’m also early in my research and can share my general experience. Recovery varies a lot, but most people start feeling more normal after 2-3 weeks, with swelling gradually going down. For photos or returning to work, many find that after about a month, swelling is less noticeable, and they look fairly normal. Keep in mind, though, that subtle swelling can sometimes persist for several months. I’d recommend consulting a board-certified ENT or plastic surgeon experienced in rhinoplasty—they can give you a personalized timeline based on your goals and procedure. Good luck, and take your time to heal!

Honestly I think most people look totally fine after like a week or so, I mean its just swelling right. The hardest part is just not touching your nose too much

same here worried about swelling for photos

For me the weirdest part was how my smile felt totally stiff for a few weeks, it made taking photos feel super awkward even after the major swelling went down.

That stiff upper lip thing is so real, it honestly felt like my face was frozen for an entire month which made candid shots look so unnatural. definately factor in some extra time for your facial expressions to feel like your own again before the wedding

Swelling was still there a bit at 4 weeks but not super obvious in photos, just avoid bright lighting or angles that highlight it. Took me about 3 weeks to feel comfortable enough for work but I was still self conscious.

From what I remember, I felt pretty good about my appearance after around three weeks, but the real subtle improvements took a few months to fully settle in. Swelling can linger in that initial phase, especially if you’re trying to look perfect for an event, so I’d advise giving yourself as much time as possible. It’s quite a gradual process to see everything truly settled down.

In my experience, recovery from rhinoplasty varied quite a bit, but the first few weeks were all about patience. I started feeling more like myself after about two weeks, but I wouldn’t say I felt entirely “normal” until around the four- to six-week mark. Swelling is definitely an issue, and while I was presentable enough for casual outings after three weeks, I still noticed subtle changes for a couple of months. I took a full month off from any big events, just to be safe.

It’s also worthwhile to note that my comfort level with how I looked shifted significantly over time. For those first few weeks, I was a bit self-conscious in photos, especially since my smile felt off. I recommend planning your outfits that can help minimize the focus on your face in case you feel uncomfortable. Have some good makeup items on hand that can help with any redness or discoloration too.

If you can, consider reaching out to others who have had similar work done in your area. Sometimes people will share tips about specific products for concealing swelling or their experiences with different lighting when taking pictures. And remember that every person heals at their own pace, so listen to your body and give yourself grace.
